NOTE: There are two paintings by the same name and very similar to one another. One is considerably larger than the other but both have been linked to Leonardo mainly due to historical records that exist. This page is dedicated to the larger version of the painting.
SUBJECT MATTER: Virgin Mary receives news from the archangel Gabriel that she will bear the immaculate conception of Jesus.
TYPE: Oils on poplar wood panel. SIZE: 98 × 217 cm's
PRESENT LOCATION: Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy.

AUTHENTICATION: There is some debate from Art historians if this is actually an authentic Leonardo piece or if it is a work of his colleague from Verrocchios' workshop, Lorenzo di Credi. There are a number of issues with the painting that suggest that it was not painted by an Artist of Leonardo’s calibre.
